Ukraine reports serious damage to power plants

According to information from Ukraine, several power plants were severely damaged in Russian attacks on the energy infrastructure. The Ukrainian side in turn claims to have hit oil refineries in Russia.

Russia has hit Ukraine with new massive missile attacks. The Ukrainian Air Force reported in the morning that 21 of a total of 34 rockets and cruise missiles of various types had been shot down. The attacks came from the air, the Black Sea and the ground, it said.

According to the energy company DTEK, a total of four thermal power plants were seriously damaged. People were also injured. “You will receive the help you need,” the company said. Workers are currently trying to repair the damage.

There had previously been an air alert across the country. According to the Energy Ministry, the air strikes primarily targeted energy facilities. Attacks were reported in the Dnipro, Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. According to authorities, two energy facilities were hit in the Dnipro region.

Hit the grounds of a hospital

The authorities also reported several explosions again in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, which has been repeatedly shelled and is not far from the Russian border.

It was said that the grounds of a hospital were also hit by Russian shelling. There was damage to the buildings due to the pressure wave, and some windows were broken. A patient was injured in her bed. Authorities also released images of the damage.

Attacks on Russian oil refineries

But attacks against Russia also came from Ukraine: According to its own statements, two Russian oil refineries and a military air base were hit in a large-scale drone attack. Ukraine has hit significant technological facilities at two refineries in the southern Russian region of Krasnodar, a Ukrainian defense source told AFP.

Russian authorities had previously reported a fire at a refinery in the town of Slavyansk-na-Kubani. According to state media, the plant then partially stopped production. According to the Defense Ministry, a total of 66 drones were intercepted in Krasnodar and two drones over the annexed Crimean peninsula.

The governor of the Krasnodar region said on the Telegram online service that the drones were apparently intended to hit “oil refineries and infrastructure” but that there were “no injuries or serious damage.”
