Canada's Prime Minister Carney has announced an early parliamentary election. The end of April should be voted. The early date is likely to be due to the upswing, which US President Trump provides the liberal.
In around a month, citizens in Canada are to vote on a new parliament. The country's head of government, Mark Carney, called out new elections for April 28 – although he could have taken the time with this step until October.
Carney in the Canadian capital Ottawa announced that he had asked General Governor Mary Simon for the dissolution of the parliament and the proclamation of new elections. He had taken over both the office as chairman of the Liberals and that of the Prime Minister after his predecessor Justin Trudeau had resigned in order to advance a vote of no confidence.
Trump provides liberal survey plus
When Trudeau announced his resignation in January, the liberals were behind the conservatives under party leader Pierre Poilievre in voters. If his conservative party of Canada election victory, he could hope for the position of head of government.
But the change in the White House in the USA provides the liberals and Carney again. The party leader clearly opposes US President Donald Trump and his efforts to want to make Canada the 51st state of the United States, as well as against Trump's trade policy, in which he has raised a number of special tariffs against Canada.
“Trump wants to break us”
Carney also presented himself as a clear opponent of Trump's course when the new election was announced. “We are faced with the most important crisis of our lives because of the unjustified trade measures by US President Trump and his threats against our sovereignty.
Carney continued: “Trump wants to break us so that the USA can own us.” Therefore, a lot has to be done for the security of Canada and therefore he asked the voters “for a strong mandate” for himself and his party.
Central banker and UN special envoys
Carney is currently back in the surveys. He is considered a crisis test, even if he lacks government experience. During the financial crisis, Carney Canada's central bank, later the Bank of England during the Brexit. Most recently, he was a UN special envelope for climate protection. He advertises closer cooperation with Europe and Asia to reduce US dependency.
His competitor Poilievre advertises with low taxes and cuts in the state budget. He repeatedly criticized fake news and a “Woke” ideology. Tones that are reminiscent of US President Trump – even if the head of the conservatives tries, as well as all the Canadian top candidates, to present themselves as opponents of Trump.
