Solemn opening: honor for author from Belarus
The book fair was opened on Wednesday evening with a ceremony in the Leipzig Gewandhaus. The Belarusian author Alhierd Bacharevič received the Leipzig Book Prize for European Communication. Bacharevič was awarded for his novel “Europe's dogs”, which according to the jury is a “wild mix of polittriller, epic, adventure history, satire and fairy tale”. The work was banned by the authorities in his home country of Belarus. The writer lives in exile in Berlin.
Great interest in host country Norway
The writer Tore Renberg, who knows Leipzig from the research for his book “The Lung swimming test”, was happy about the audience at MDR Culture: “So many young people!” Linn Strømsborg, which belongs to the young generation of Norwegian literary, also presented her book at the fair. “Damn angry” is about a woman who gets a tantrum with her family and friends on summer vacation and questions her life so far as a mother, partner and woman.
