New York mayor indicted

Eric Adams has been Mayor of New York since 2022. But recently there have been more and more allegations against him. Now he is indicted on corruption charges. Adams denies the allegations.

Charges have been brought against New York Mayor Eric Adams. The 64-year-old Democrat is accused of, among other things, bribery, fraud and illegal financing of election campaigns. This was announced by the public prosecutor in New York.

The indictment specifically stated that Adams “solicited and demanded” bribes from a Turkish representative, including free and heavily discounted luxury trips. The Turkish representative asked for Adams' help with the Turkish consulate in Manhattan.

Adams' popularity has recently declined

Adams had already addressed the impending indictment in statements the evening before and described any allegations as “completely false and based on lies.” He is innocent and will fight the allegations “with every ounce of my strength and spirit.” He always knew that if he stood up for the citizens of New York, he could become a target himself.

The former police officer has been New York City Hall chief since January 2022. So far, however, he hasn't been able to achieve much. Recently, things have been particularly turbulent in his city government: several Adams employees are being investigated for various allegations. There were numerous resignations. Adams' popularity ratings plummeted and calls for his resignation became louder and louder, most recently even from within his own ranks.
