US President Trump temporarily stops all expenses: it is about grants for foreign aids, but above all about grants for the states. The government wants to check everything from scratch.
US President Donald Trump has ordered that all state grants and loans will be frozen from Tuesday afternoon (local time). That is the same. The government is now to examine Trump's order which funding and auxiliary funds will be paid in the future.
It is about tens of billions of dollars that the US government has at least temporarily frozen. Foreign aids, funds for non-governmental organizations, but also grants for various funding programs in the US states, including educational and social programs are affected.
CNN: more than 2,000 Funding programs interrupted
The Trump government announced that the provisional stopping of the grants does not apply to social security, the state health insurance program for seniors, medicar, or student loans. The broadcaster CNN reports that a total of more than 2,000 funding programs are concerned.
Authorities and organizations in the states are asked to document whether grants are used for illegal immigrants, climate policy or diversity programs – i.e. areas that Trump does not want to support. From the White House it was said that the government's preliminary payment break gave the time to check whether the well -known programs previously matched the priorities of the President.
Democrats smell breach of the law
Democratic congress members doubt that Trump's decree is lawful. The democratic minority leader in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, said that the congress had approved the money. It is not optional, but law. Several non -profit organizations have already filed a lawsuit.
