Actress Joan Plowright died

The actress stood on stage in many roles before her film career in Holywood started. Joan Plowight was the widow of the drama star Laurence Olivier and received many great awards himself.

British actress Joan Plowight died at the age of 95. The British news agency PA reports, citing its family. It stood on the theather stage for decades and was awarded many times. Plowight also played in the feature films “101 Dalmatian” and “Tea with Mussolini”.

She died surrounded by her family, PA quoted from a message from the relatives. It states that she had a “long and shiny” career in theater, film and television until she had calmed down because of blindness. Plowight was married to Schauzelgend Laurence Olivier, who died in 1989.

Numerous awards

Plowright celebrated a number of success in the course of her career and received the most important US stage award – the Tony Award – for her role in “A Taste of Honey”. Although she stood in front of the camera again and again, her career only really started in the 1980s, with a role in an American television film about Anne Frank, alongside Maximilian Schell.

She played in the comedy “I love you to death” with Kevin Kline and Keanu Reeves. For her supporting role in “Enchanted April” she was nominated for an Oscar and won a Golden Globe, as well as for the television film “Stalin”.

London theater want to remember

After withdrawing from acting, she allowed her to film a camera team in 2018 with the British acting stars Judi Dench, Maggie Smith and Eileen Atkins. Everyone had been awarded the title of Dame by the Queen. The resulting documentary “Tea With The Dames – An unforgettable afternoon” gave an insight into the theater and film world and Plowights.

Theater in London's West End want to remind you next week. “Dame Joan Plowight was an iconic and deeply respected figure in the world of theater,” said the organization Society of London Theater on the occasion of her death.
