The speed limit is to be raised to 130 on around 120 kilometers of motorway in the Netherlands. The loosening was important for the Wilders Party PVV. However, nothing changes to 98 percent of the routes.
In the Netherlands, a speed limit of 130 kilometers per hour will soon apply again on certain motorway sections. As the Ministry of Transport announced, the speed limit of 100 imposed five years ago is to be relaxed. The relaxation was a central wish of the right -wing populist party for freedom (PVV) around Geert Wilders, who has been part of the government since last summer.
A maximum of 130 kilometers per hour can again be driven on a total of three sections during the day. In 2020, 100 Tempo was introduced on all motorways. Exceptions at 130 km / h was only available for the period from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Only a fraction of the road network affected
Palace 130 is now valid for a section of the A6 in the north of the country near Lelystad, most of the final dike between Noord-Holland and Friesland as well as a small piece on the A7 from Winschofen to the German border near East Frisia. A fourth section is to be released in summer.
In total, it is about 117 kilometers – about 1.7 percent of the motorway route. According to the ministry, the new top speed applies as soon as the new street signs are set up. Further motorway sections should follow if the requirements for noise protection and pollution loads allow it.
