In Nancy, France's President Macron and Poland's Prime Minister Tusk signed a new friendship and cooperation agreement. It is also said to secure mutual military assistance in both countries.
France and Poland have sealed a friendship and cooperation agreement in the Eastern French city of Nancy – given the threat of Russia, a shoulder on the shoulder on defense issues.
“In this contract of Nancy we decided to send a very clear signal by taking a clause on defense and mutual assistance that continues our joint obligations in the context of NATO and the European Union,” said France President Emmanuel Macron after the signing of the President Donald Tusk.
Use of French nuclear weapons not excluded
The contract does not exclude a use of French nuclear weapons to protect Poland. “As far as the solidarity clause is concerned, which is included in this signed contract, it includes all components,” said Macron. “And as you know, there is the greatest confidentiality around the nuclear deterrence.”
But France had regularly confirmed, according to Macron, that the vital interests that defends it with its nuclear weapons also include a European dimension. “This means that when making decision -making about what is vital interests, the interests of our most important partners are involved,” said France's President.
Cooperation with nuclear energy and migration planned
The cooperation agreement between the two countries also deals with the economy, mobility, migration and nuclear energy. Unlike Germany, which has switched off its last three nuclear power plants, Poland is re -enacted into nuclear power. With nuclear power, Germany's eastern neighbor wants to replace the environmentally harmful coal as an energy source, the supplies of which are also limited.
In the contract, the nuclear powerland of France and Poland have agreed to advance the expansion of nuclear energy and also renewable energies at EU level. In the further development of nuclear energy, a close exchange between the two countries is planned.
Treaty strengthens “European stability”
Tusk spoke of a historical event. “From today on, France and Poland can really count together in these difficult times,” he said. “This contract strengthens the entire structure of European stability.”
The Lorraine city of Nancy symbolizes the connection between the two countries, because the former Polish king Stanislas Leszczynski ruled there as a Duke of Lorraine and Bar in the 18th century.
