Boss of US base fired in Greenland

The head of the US base was released just two weeks after visiting US Vice President Vance on Greenland. Shortly before, she is said to have distanced herself from the US government's statements.

The commander of the US military base Pituffik on Greenland, Colonel Susannah Meyers, has been released. This was announced by the Space Operations Command. The confidence in their leadership skills was lost. Commanders expect them to comply with the highest behavioral standards – especially with a view to the non -party exercise of their duties. The command was now taken over by Colonel Shawn Lee.

The spokesman for the US Department of Defense, Sean Parnell, commented similarly. He announced on X, measures that undermined President Donald Trump's command chain or the agenda would not be tolerated in the Ministry of Defense.

Meyers is said to have distanced himself in e-mail from Vance

The decision was made just two weeks after visiting the US Vice President JD Vance on the island. For months, US President Trump has been expressing his interest in taking control of the Greenland belonging to the Kingdom of Denmark. In order to underline these ambitions, Vance had traveled to the Pituffik base at the end of March.

There he had expressed sharp criticism of the NATO allied Denmark in front of the stationed US soldiers: “You didn't treat the Greenlanders well”, and Copenhagen had invested too little in Greenland's security. The environment around the US base is not as safe as it was 30 to 40 years ago. Denmark's Foreign Minister Lars Lökke Rasmussen reacted piqued: So one does not speak with narrow allies.

According to a report by the Military.com website, the Meyers now dismissed distanced itself in an email to the staff of the base of Vances Criticism of Denmark and his supervision of Greenland. In doing so, she tried to create unity between the US soldiers and the Canadians working there, Danes and Greenlanders, the portal reported.
