Things haven’t been going well for Lina Magull in terms of sport lately. After six years at FC Bayern, she is now set to leave the club.
Veteran Lina Magull is apparently leaving the FC Bayern women’s team. As the “Kicker” reported on Wednesday, the national player is going to Italy and joining Inter Milan. The women’s team there is currently in fourth place in the table and is not one of the top teams with ambitions for the Champions League. Magull’s decision therefore seems surprising.
Things haven’t been going so well for the 29-year-old in terms of sport recently. She hardly played a role at FC Bayern this season: after a muscle injury at the end of October, coach Alexander Straus only rarely used Magull. In addition, she resigned from her position as captain last summer.
104 competitive games for Bayern
At the time, she justified the decision in an interview with t-online as follows: “The season demanded a lot from me and the position was stressful for me in a certain way. With this decision I wanted to enable myself to focus more on myself again to be able to judge yourself.”
After eleven years in the Bundesliga, Magull would be moving to another league for the first time if confirmed. She achieved promotion to Germany’s top division in 2012 with FSV Gütersloh before spending three years under contract with VfL Wolfsburg. From 2015 to 2018 she played for SC Freiburg. However, she played most of her competitive games for FC Bayern (104).
Magull has been playing in the senior national team since 2015, and after the early exit from the World Cup last year, current national coach Horst Hrubesch hardly relied on the midfielder anymore.
