The arrangement signed by Trump bears the title “Keeping men from women's sports”. The Republican emphasized that with this executive order “the war against women's sports ended”. “From now on, women's sports will only be for women,” said Trump. When signing the decrees, the president was surrounded by dozens of applauding athletes of all ages.
According to the Press spokeswoman of the White House, Karoline Leavitt, the decision provides for immediate measures. They are therefore directed against schools and sports associations that do not provide sports programs and changing rooms only for girls and women or allow transgender athletes to compete in competitions. According to Deket, federal funds can be deleted from the institutions that violate the ban.
Several measures
The time of the decrees fell together with the national day for girls and women in sports and is the youngest of a series of measures by the Trump government that aimed at transgender people. Already in the election campaign, Trump spoke of wanting to end the “transgender spirit sense”.
Among other things, it has already been determined that the United States' politics assumes that there are only two genders – male and female. Trump also instructed federal authorities to close all diversity and inclusion offices within 60 days, insofar as this is permitted by law. Employees were sent on paid vacation to switch off websites for diversity and equality programs. And as in his first term, Trump wants to exclude trans people from the US military.
Sharp criticism from the German University Sports Association
The general German University Sports Association (ADH) criticized Trump's recent decision on the ban on trans people in women's sports. “For all people, university sports, regardless of gender, origin or identity, should offer the opportunity to participate in sport,” said CEO Jörg Förster of the dpa news agency.
An exclusion of transpersonen leads to stigmatization and marginalization and “in contradiction to the values of fairness, inclusion and respect that characterize sport,” he warned. The University Sports Association is committed to the “Agenda 2030” of the United Nations on the principles of diversity, equality and sustainable development.
Excluded from the Olympic Games
Trump also focuses on the Olympic Games, which are to be held in Los Angeles in 2028. The President announced that his government will deny all trans people to participate in the competitions.
“In Los Angeles 2028, my government will not stand by and see how men beat female athletes,” said Trump. For this purpose, his government will “reject all of men's visa applications who try to enter the United States fraudulently by identifying themselves as female athletes”.
