Several men escaped from a prison in the US major city of New Orleans. Among other things, they fled through a hole in the wall. The authorities warn of them – and call for modernizations in the prison.
New Orleans is currently on alert. Ten prisoners escaped. According to media reports, three have now been caught. Seven men are still on the run. It is assumed that they are armed and dangerous, the authorities said.
According to the authorities, the fled were charged, among other things, for serious acts of violence and were sometimes convicted. According to those responsible, a large -scale search runs with the participation of local, federal and federal law enforcement authorities.
Population should not approach the breakouts
The detention center in the US south state of Louisiana was completely sealed off. The population is called to stay vigilant and not to approach suspects. Some people who might be at risk were warned immediately and brought to safety, it said.
“During a routine count in the morning, it was found that several inmates were missing,” said a representative of the authorities. Later, authorities described how the outbreak could occur and published corresponding image and video material.
The prison apparently has little security precautions.
Escape led through hole in the wall
Accordingly, the men used a weak point in sliding doors that could be lifted from the lead. In a cell you tore a toilet out of the wall and crawled through a tight hole behind it. According to the authorities, this step would not have been possible from the inside alone. It is checked whether they were helped by officials.
Finally, the men came through a supply shaft to a door that led outdoors and then climbed over the prison wall. Behind it went a direct path to railway tracks and a long -distance road, the Interstate 10.
One representative of the authorities noted that the prison had only minor security measures – although numerous prisoners are housed there with a high security risk. His colleague explained that the incident made it clear how urgently repairs and modernizations of the facility are urgently necessary. The staff is also heavily overloaded.
