The US government continues to proceed against Trump critics: Now ex-general staff chief Milley loses his personal protection. It could also be degraded afterwards. His picture has already been removed from the Pentagon.
The new US government has withdrawn Personal Protection from another prominent critic of President Donald Trump: former chief of staff Mark Milley is no longer protected by state security personnel. The new Defense Minister Pete Hegseth informed Milley that his personal protection would be hired, said a Pentagon spokesman.
Iran threat?
This is an unusual and drastic measure. Because observers suspect that the retired general from Iran could be threatened because in 2020 he had supervised the fatal drone attack on the mighty Iranian General Kasem Soleimani in Iraq.
Trump had already withdrawn two other prominent critics in the past few days: the virologist and former Corona government advisor Anthony Fauci, his former national security consultant John Bolton and ex-foreign minister Mike Pompeo. According to the Pentagon, Hegseth also withdrawn the ex-general. Milley no longer has access to secret government and military documents.
Subsequent degradation is checked
In addition, Hegseth also instructed the Department of Department, the Ministry of Defense, to examine Milley's behavior as a chief of staff. Based on the knowledge, Hegseth wants to decide on a subsequent degradation of the four-star general.
Shortly after Trump's swearing in on Monday last week, a portrait of Milleys had already been left behind in the Pentagon. Earlier general staff are traditionally honored with a picture in a hallway.
Apparently Trump also wants to prevent Milley from memory – in the Pentagon he had Milley's portrait removed from the series of all former chiefs of general staff.
Appointed by Trump himself – then sharp critics
Trump had appointed Milley as a chief of staff during his first term from 2017 to 2021. After that, however, her relationship deteriorated rapidly – especially when he testified to the Capitol attack in front of the committee. In an extraordinary political statement with colleagues from the US military leadership, Milley also condemned the events of the day. The general staff reminded the military that it was obliged to the law and defend the constitution.
Milley is also said to have taken secret precautions after the Capitol's storming in order to restrict Trump's lawful command over nuclear weapons. Trump wrote in his online service Truth Social, in earlier times Milley would have been punished for such behavior with death.
Biden protected Milley Law enforcement
2023 – During Trump's successor Joe Biden – Milley resigned. Then he criticized Trump sharply. So he told the rigid reporter Bob Woodward that Trump was “through and through a fascist” and the “most dangerous person for this country”.
Trump had threatened critics and political opponents in the election campaign. Milley – like Fauci – belongs to the Trump critics that ex -President Biden had prevented in one of his last official acts in order to protect them from law enforcement.
