Ukraine apparently attacks Russian aircraft factory

Ukraine and Russia are again reporting mutual drone attacks. Kyiv said it targeted a Russian oil storage facility and an aircraft factory. There are conflicting reports about the consequences.

The Ukrainian military said it hit an oil depot in Russia's Voronezh Oblast for the second time this week. The military said the Ukrainian troops also attacked the infrastructure of an aircraft factory in the Russian Smolensk Oblast. The governors of the attacked regions reported no deaths or injuries.

damage residential roofs or at the aircraft factory?

According to the Ukrainian General Staff, the attack in Smolensk caused “explosions” at the aircraft factory. The head of the Center for Combating Disinformation at the Security Council, which reports to the Ukrainian president, Andriy Kovalenko, also confirmed the attack. He explained that Su-25 fighter jets were being modernized at the factory. The independent internet portal Astra wrote: “According to preliminary information, the aircraft factory burned after the attack.”

The governor of the Smolensk region, Vasily Anokhin, did not mention the attack on the aircraft factory, but wrote about individual fire damage to the roofs of residential buildings caused by drone debris. At the same time, he warned against the emergence of fakes about alleged drone impacts.

The Smolensk aircraft plant, founded in 1926, is on Western sanctions lists because of its production of air-to-surface missiles.

The Ukrainian army also announced that it had fired drones at the oil storage facility in the Russian region of Voronezh. The camp in Liskinska, which supplies fuel for the Russian army, was hit for the second time in a week. The attack caused a fire, the Ukrainian army said on Facebook.

The camp had already been in flames six days ago after a Ukrainian attack. The region's governor, Alexander Gusev, said the fire was caused by falling parts of a downed drone.

Mutual Drone attacks

Both sides had previously reported mutual drone attacks: Ukrainian air defense reported four missiles and 131 drones. The army was able to shoot down 72 drones, the remaining 59 were “lost”. However, there is no information about the possible impacts of the rockets. According to media reports, one target was the large city of Dnipro, where there were warnings about ballistic missiles and explosions could be heard.

The Defense Ministry in Moscow reported the downing of 55 Ukrainian drones. More than half of them were intercepted in the regions bordering Ukraine.
