After the assassination attempt on Trump, the Secret Service was heavily criticized. It is said that leads to the shooter were not followed up. However, the head of the agency has now refused to resign.
The director of the US Secret Service, Kimberly Cheatle, has admitted mistakes in the shooting during a Trump rally, but has ruled out resigning. “I am the director of the Secret Service, and it is my job to ensure that we conduct an investigation and provide our employees with the necessary resources,” Cheatle said. The intelligence chief described the assassination attempt as “unacceptable.”
Massive criticism of Secret Service
The Secret Service has come under fire for the gun incident. The agency has launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident to determine the exact circumstances and identify potential security gaps.
Experts are primarily asking how the perpetrator, armed with a semi-automatic AR-15 rifle, was able to get unnoticed onto the factory roof in Butler, Pennsylvania, from where he fired the shots at Trump during his campaign appearance on Saturday. Trump suffered a minor injury to his ear.
Didn't follow up on clues?
The building where the shooter was located was outside the security zone that the Secret Service had set up for Trump's campaign rally. However, the building is only 150 meters from where the podium was erected for Trump. And from its roof there was a clear view in the direction of the ex-president.
The Secret Service is also under pressure from eyewitness reports. They said they saw the armed man on the roof and informed the security forces. However, they did not react.
