The former Formula 1 driver caused a stir with an emotional post about his private life. There were many positive reactions.
Former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher has shown himself with his partner for the first time in an Instagram post. “The best thing in life is when you have the right partner by your side with whom you can share everything” (sic!), the 48-year-old wrote on Instagram on Sunday evening in a photo. It shows him arm in arm with a man, both of them looking at the sunset over the sea together.
There were numerous empathetic comments on the photo. The pay-TV broadcaster Sky, for whose exclusive Formula 1 broadcasts Schumacher regularly appears in front of the camera, responded with a heart emoji. Other users wrote “Congratulations” or “I am proud of you and your courage”. But numerous celebrities also reacted enthusiastically to the step taken by the brother of Formula 1 record world champion Michael Schumacher. “That's right and that's exactly how it is right” (sic!) wrote Natascha Ochsenknecht.
And reality TV star Carmen Geiss confirmed the former Formula 1 driver's coming out a few minutes later. In a long post on Instagram, she wrote about her friendship with Schumacher. “Today he admitted to his homosexuality. This step was an act of liberation and self-acceptance for him. It was a courageous decision that had been maturing within him for a long time and which he now makes with pride and self-confidence.”
And further: “His coming out is not only a personal triumph, but also a sign that he is finally able to live and love his true identity without fear or shame.”
Schumacher was married to Cora from October 2001 to February 2015 and has a son with her, David, who has been driving in the DTM since 2022.
