Hundreds of diplomats from the US State Department and the Authority of International Development (USA) protest with a letter to Foreign Minister Marco Rubio against the abolition of USAID. In the letter that is available to the Reuters news agency, the end of the authority undermine the worldwide leadership role and the security of the United States and creates a power vacuum that could exploit China and Russia.
The diplomats fear that President Donald Trump, which was imposed on almost all foreign aids on January 20, also endanger American employees and forces overseas. At the same time, the lives of millions of people abroad are jeopardized, which are dependent on the help of the United States.

“The decision to freeze and end contracts for foreign aid without making an appropriate review endangers our partnerships with important allies, undermines the trust and opens up the opportunity to expand their influence,” it continues. “Foreign aid is not a charity. Instead, it is a strategic instrument that stabilizes regions, prevents conflicts and promotes the interests of the United States,” the diplomats write.
In a legal discussion about the maintenance of certain development aid generators, the US government had only had to accept a defeat in front of the Supreme Court on Wednesday. The Supreme Court ruled that the United States should not hold payments to foreign aid organizations for services already provided.
