Cargo ship loses more than 40 containers

During the storm in the North Sea, numerous containers on a freighter fell overboard. Some of the containers have now washed up on the Danish coast – parts of the cargo are also scattered there.

A cargo ship lost more than 40 containers off the Danish coast. The ship Mayview Maersk was traveling in the North Sea during the storm, the shipping company Maersk confirmed in the evening.

It reported the loss of containers on the way from Bremerhaven to Poland early on Friday morning. “No crew members were injured and the ship can continue to operate normally,” a spokesman said. According to initial estimates, more than 40 containers fell overboard. “The relevant authorities have been informed of the incident.”

The contents of the containers are scattered on the beach between Tranum and Slettestrand in Denmark. The police warn: Simply taking the items with you is theft.

Refrigerators and shoes washed onto the beach

According to media reports, individual containers and cargo have already washed up. Refrigerators, cannulas and shoes were found on a coastal strip in northern Denmark, as the radio stations DR and TV2, the Ritzau news agency and the newspaper “Nordjyske” reported.

The police in North Jutland warned on Platform X that simply taking the items with you could be theft. The shipping company promised support with the clean-up work. She hired a company that had expertise in recovering and locating lost containers.

The company said it would investigate the case and take the necessary steps to minimize the risk of similar incidents in the future. Affected customers should be informed about their shipments. The storm “Pia” reached Denmark on Thursday afternoon.
