Biden warns of Trump's reaction to election defeat

Since the election of US President Biden in 2020, his predecessor Trump has claimed that his victory was stolen. As a result, his supporters stormed the Capitol. With a view to the upcoming US election, the incumbent has now expressed concern.

US President Joe Biden has warned that his Republican predecessor Donald Trump may not acknowledge a possible defeat in the November election, as he did in 2020. “If Trump loses, I'm not confident at all,” Biden said in an interview with CBS when asked whether he believed in a peaceful transfer of power to Kamala Harris. “He means what he says. We don't take him seriously. But he means all this talk about a bloodbath if they lose.”

The president was referring to a controversial statement made by Trump at a campaign rally in March, where he warned of a “bloodbath” if he did not win the election. What exactly he meant by the remark remained unclear, as he had spoken in his speech about risks to the US auto industry and tariffs.

Referring to alleged Chinese plans to build cars in Mexico and then sell them in the US, Trump said at the time: “They won't be able to sell those cars if I'm elected. If I'm not elected, there will be a bloodbath across the board, that will be the least of it, it will be a bloodbath for the country. That will be the least of it. But they won't sell those cars.”

Harris: Against chaos, hatred and fear

Meanwhile, Democratic presidential candidate Harris warned against a second term for Trump. She referred to a statement by Trump that he would become a dictator on “day one” after an election victory in November and to a statement by the Republican about suspending the Constitution.

“Anyone who suggests that we should repeal the Constitution of the United States should never again have the opportunity to stand behind the seal of the President of the United States,” Harris said at a campaign rally in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She called on the people of the USA to reject the “chaos, fear and hatred”.

Trump because Election interference accused

Trump, who lost the 2020 presidential election to Biden, continues to falsely claim to have won that election. He is facing charges of attempted illegal election interference in Washington DC and Georgia. Trump supporters stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, with the aim of preventing the certification of his successor's election victory. There were several deaths, and the intruders also caused considerable damage.

It was Biden's first interview since he announced his withdrawal from the race for the White House on July 21 after strong intra-party pressure. Now his Vice President Kamala Harris is running as the Democratic candidate against Trump.
