US representative house approves bridging budgets

To prevent a shutdown, the Republicans in the US House of Representatives decided to bridge the bridging house until September. In the Senate, however, the approval of some Democrats is also required.

The US representative house in Washington approved a bridging budget with the votes of the Republicans by the end of September. This is intended to prevent a so-called shutdown with the payment stop of all federal expenditure for the US administration. With 217 to 213 votes, the MPs approved the draft, as the news channels CNN and FOX News reported.

He provides for an increase in defense spending, which is to be compensated for by budget cuts in other areas. The Republican chairman of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, wrote on the platform X that the Republicans had acted in the interest of the American people. The coordination was considered an important test of the group discipline of the Republicans, who dominate both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Consciousness of the Democrats unsure

The budget now goes to the Senate and also needs the approval of some Democrats. Because in the second chamber of the US congress, 60 of the 100 senators must initially agree so that the proposal comes to vote, but the Republicans only have 53 seats.

According to media reports, it has so far been unclear whether the Democrats will agree in the Senate. Some of them fear that their party would blame their party in the event of a rejection. However, many MPs want the party base a more decisive appearance against the Republicans. Because the Democrats are in both chambers in the minority, the budget debate would be one of the rare occasions on the noticeable opposition.

State money for Prestige projects?

The Democrats in the House of Representatives had bothered, among other things, that the bridging budget does not describe the budget posts sufficiently precisely. This makes it easier to use state funds for prestige projects by individual MPs.

If the law does not go through the congress, the so -called shutdown threatens on Saturday night: employees of the federal government would then no longer be paid for, soldiers received no soldier, and programs and services for millions and Americans would be on hold.
