Texas offers Trump land for deportations

The government of Texas supports a tough course in immigration policy – like the future President Trump. She has now offered this land that could be used for mass deportations.

The US state of Texas has offered US President-elect Donald Trump a piece of land along the US-Mexico border to use for possible mass deportations. Texas Land Commissioner and Republican Dawn Buckingham told the AP that she had heard that the incoming administration wanted to look at the property and was considering it.

“We just want to let them know that we're a good partner. We're here. We want to help them,” Buckingham said. The property is located in rural Starr County in the Rio Grande Valley and was acquired by the US state of Texas last month. It has no paved roads and is located in a district with limited local resources. Buckingham, however, emphasized his convenient location. “The land there is very flat. It's near major airports. It's also near a bridge over the river,” Buckingham said.

No comment from Trump yet

The Texas government has long supported tough measures at the border to prevent illegal border crossings. These include the construction of razor wire fences and the passage last year of a law allowing law enforcement to arrest migrants who cross the border illegally.

Trump's team has not said whether it will accept Texas' offer.
