US development aid was responsible for thousands of projects worldwide – now it is largely smashed. Foreign Minister Rubio has now announced the final from the USA on July 1st.
The US Development Authority USAD is to be finally smashed by July 1. Foreign Minister Marco Rubio informed the congress.
Until then, some of the remaining functions should be taken over by the Foreign Ministry. Rubio wrote others who did not match the goals of the government should be completely abandoned. Most of the remaining USAID employees are to be released.
Unfortunately, the authority had moved away from its original order a long time ago, said the minister. The benefits are too low and the costs were too high. President Donald Trump is thanks to the fact that “this misguided and fiscally irresponsible era is now over”. The foreign aid programs would be reorganized according to what was best for the United States, Rubio wrote.
USA so far the largest source of Development aid
The government had already started the smashing of the USA in early February, shortly after Trump's taking office. USAID is one of the authorities, who are particularly targeted by Trump and his advisor Elon Musk, who is supposed to identify savings potential in the government and administrative apparatus. Hundreds of employees have already been fired and billions of billions of services and programs on which millions of people around the world are dependent.
So far, the United States has by far the largest source of development aid worldwide. USAID was one of the largest organizations of its kind and organized numerous auxiliary measures all over the world – from AIDS aid to reconstruction in war regions. A federal judge then judged in March that the “accelerated closure by USAID” probably violated the US constitution several times.
Aid after earthquake in Myanmar more difficult
Despite his new policy in development aid, Trump has announced support from the United States after the severe earthquake in Southeast Asia. USAID still has a team of disaster experts who can react immediately in an emergency, said foreign ministry spokeswoman Bruce. “These teams of experts provide immediate help, including food and clean drinking water, which is needed after a catastrophe to save lives.”
Experts think it is clear that the deep cuts in the foreign aids from the USA and the Foreign Ministry should in any case prove to be a challenge for every reaction to the first major natural disaster in Trump's second term.
Sarah Charles, formerly senior USAID employee under the government of Trump's predecessor Joe Biden, said the system is already in fragments. There are no people and resources to pull survivors from the ruins collapsed and save lives in other ways.
