Lufthansa resumes flights to Tel Aviv

Due to a threat of escalation in the Middle East, Lufthansa had suspended flights to the Israeli city of Tel Aviv. Now the airline is apparently reassessing the situation: flights will resume.

After a break of over a month due to the Middle East conflict, Lufthansa is resuming its flights to the Israeli metropolis of Tel Aviv on Thursday. The airline justified the decision with the “current situation” without giving any details.

Lufthansa flights to the Lebanese capital Beirut, however, remain “unchanged and suspended until September 30th.” Flights to the Jordanian capital Amman have resumed since August 27th, it said.

Flights suspended due to threat of escalation

The Lufthansa Group suspended its flights to Tel Aviv on August 1 due to the increasing tensions in the Middle East. Most recently, the company, which also includes the airlines Eurowings, Austrian Airlines, Swiss and Brussels Airlines, extended the flight ban to Tel Aviv on August 29 until September 4.

Since the beginning of the war in the Gaza Strip following the major Hamas attack on October 7, there have been repeated clashes between the pro-Iranian Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Israeli army. After the killings of Hamas leader Ismail Haniya in Tehran and Hezbollah military leader Fuad Shukr in Lebanon at the end of July, fears of a further escalation of the conflict increased sharply. Iran and its allies threatened Israel with retaliation.
