In the election campaign, Trump deliberately remained vague if questions about the right to abortion. Now he has made access to secure abortions with a new decree more difficult. He also solved diversity programs.
US President Donald Trump has further restricted access to abortions. He picked up two decrees of his predecessor Joe Biden, who should ensure nationwide access to abortions.
Biden had issued the decrees after the Supreme Court of the United States had lifted nationwide right to abortion in 2022. Among other things, his government wanted to ensure access to abortion pills and make it easier for women to travel to other states for abortions.
Restriction of the Development aid
Trump now picked up both decrees with his own decree. His government also blocked financial aid for organizations abroad who offer or support abortions. Trump thus put a regulation back into force, which was first introduced by US President Ronald Reagan in 1984 and has since been implemented by all governments of the Republicans.
Foreign organizations no longer receive development aid from the United States if they even mention abortions in their consultations.
“Achievements” the Opponent protect
In a demonstration of opponents of abortion in Washington, Trump also agreed to protect the “historical achievements” of the opponents in his second term. Vice President JD Vance gave a speech at the rally.
The right to abortion is one of the most controversial sociopolitical issues in the United States. While ex-President Biden's Democrats are vehemently committed to the right to abortion, Trump had deliberately remained vague during his election campaign in the politically explosive question. On Thursday, Trump pardoned 23 opponents of abortion, according to the US media reports, abortion clinics blocked.
Closure of all “dei” positions at federal authorities
In a memorandum, Trump also instructed the federal authorities to close all offices and provide diversity and inclusion within 60 days, insofar as this is permitted by law. Already on Wednesday, the government sent the “Dei” representative to US federal authorities on a paid vacation before their jobs are to be abolished.
“Dei” stands for “diversity, equity and inclusion”, in German: diversity, justice and inclusion. DEI measures are intended to ensure that people of different origins, different sexes or disabilities get the same opportunities in the workplace. Trump's Republican Party has been severe criticism of such initiatives for years.
