Near the Argentine capital Buenos Aires, a channel has colored bright red. The cause is still unclear, but the residents already have a suspicion.
Blood red lights up the water in the Sarandi channel in Argentina. What looks spectacular, many residents of the municipality of Avellanda are worried on the edge of the capital Buenos Aires. They suspect that the color was caused by pollution.
The river looks like “a Blutbach,” said resident María Duckomls of the AFP news agency. The color is a testimony “for the pollution that the poor Sarandí suffers,” added the 52-year-old housewife.
Color in the meantime
In social media, too, the river shots caused outrage. “The extent of pollution from which the neighbors have to suffer is obviously,” says the comments. According to a journalist of the AFP agency, the red color in the afternoon was a bit unmatch.
According to its own statements, the Environment Ministry of the Province of Buenos Aires had samples from the canal. They should clarify which substance has led to the red color of the water. This may have been triggered by “organic” substances.
Canal already shone in other colors
In contrast, Ducoml's resident is certain that the factories in the region are responsible for “leading the waste to the stream”. There are several textile and fur processing companies along the Sarandí. “We have already seen him bluish or slightly green, pink, purple – and with a layer of fat on the water that looks like oil,” reported Duckomls, who has lived in the area for more than 30 years.
