Apparently 40 deaths in attacks in Haiti

According to a media report, armed gangs armed in Haiti have been attacking a community for several days. According to its mayor, the village is surrounded. At least 40 people are said to have already been killed.

According to a report by the AP news agency, armed gangs killed at least 40 people in attacks near Haitis capital Port-Au-Prince. Accordingly, the attacks in the municipality of Kenscoff took place, which had previously been spared the increasing gang violation in the island state.

“Kenscoff has been attacked for eight days,” the agency quoted the mayor Jean Massillon. He blamed the “Viv Ansanm” gang coalition for the attack and said gang members went from house to house and opened the fire indiscriminately. “As we speak, they surrounded the area,” said Massillon.

Number of victims could increase

According to the deaths, there are also priests, teachers and children. The number of victims could still be significantly higher, since the police have so far not been able to advance to several areas of the municipality in which many politicians and business people live. Nevertheless, many of the victims are said to be members of the working class who manage their fields on the edge of the district on a mountain chain.

Due to the attack on Kenscoff, more than 1,660 people have already lost their shelter, as the International Organization for Migration announced. A 45 -year -old farmer said that he and his family had searched with dozens of other protection in the courtyard of the mayor's office, but “there is not enough water and food for everyone”.

People who flee from attacks on Kenscoff have found protection in the courtyard of the community's mayor's office.

Gangs control the majority of the capital

Criminal gangs have won power in Haiti since President Joveel Moïse's murder in July 2021. Port-au-Prince is 85 percent controlled by gangs. In December last year, gang members performed a massacre in a misery district of the capital and, according to the UN, killed at least 184 people. It is estimated that more than a million people in Haiti have lost their home by gang violence.
