1.7 million euros for the estate of Udo Jürgens

The Sotheby's auction house auctioned parts from the estate of Udo Jürgens – partly for a multiple of the estimated value. The musician's glass wing alone brought 240,000 euros. Some of the proceeds go to a foundation.

At an auction of memorabilia from the estate of Udo Jürgens, the expectations of the Sotheby auction house were sometimes far exceeded. The glass concert wing alone brought in 240,000 euros – and thus the multiple of his estimated price.

An Austrian collector and Udo Jürgens fan was awarded the famous musical instrument, as Sotheby's announced. The originally valued cost of the white plexiglass wing including the piano stool was 20,000 to 30,000 euros. In many appearances, the wing had accompanied the musician who died in 2014.

Sotheby's had auctioned the wing of the Schimmel company together with many other memorabilia from the star's estate. The demand developed rapidly. A total of 3,150 bids were given by almost 400 bidders.

Proceeds flows to the foundation for Young musician

In the end, the overall result was around 1.7 million euros – far above the pre -assessment of 370,000 to 500,000 euros for the entire collection. Part of the proceeds should flow to the Udo Jürgens Foundation, which supports young musicians as well as children and orphans in need.

The Starfighter flight helmet went away at Sotheby's for 31,200 euros.

In addition to the wing, other souvenirs also achieved high prices. For a white bathrobe – another trademark of the musician – someone paid 26,400 euros. A Starfighter flight helmet worn by Jürgens went away for 31,200 euros. A sculpture by Hans Arp brought 192,000 euros, a watercolor from Gustav Klimt 168,000 euros. For a Bentley Cabriolet of the singer, the successful bidder paid 132,000 euros.

Interested parties were also found for the singer's quotation shoes worn on the stage: they brought in 10,800 euros – after they were initially estimated at 150 to 250 euros.
